Designer Spotlight: Balmain

At TLC Sweden, we are very proud to feature various designers - and to help you discover more brands and find out more about designers' inspirations, motivations and clothing items, we created Designer Spotlight: a monthly series where you can read about a new designer every week.

Short History
Founded by Pierre Balmain in 1945, Balmain was an extremely popular brand from the very beginnings. During the second World War, it was also called as „a king of French fashion” and dressed actresses and celebrities such as Ruth Ford and Brigitte Bardot. Since then, the fashion brand has remained true to the vision of their founder while balancing modern and edgy designs with the respect for their traditional fashion aesthetics.
Since 2011, Olivier Rousteing has been the label’s creative director and designer, who, besides the amazing, original vision of Pierre Balmain has been influenced by the power of modern and confident women.

Why do we love Balmain?
Just like its short history suggest, Balmain is the definition of brave femininity featuring the classic designs. Every dress, blazer and skirt Balmain creates hugs the figure in a very flattering way with a hint of elegance. Besides the classic shades such as beige, black and white, we can sometimes see a pop of vivid color or a unique color-block technique on the runway (such as the purple-orange combination), and regardless of Balmain’s very clear vision, the brand and Olivier always surprise us.
